Pocket GT Troubleshooting for Bluetooth Connection


Q: "Pocket GT MIDI" doesn't appear when scanning Bluetooth devices on BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT app. (Android only)
A:
The "Location" settings might be set to "Off."
At [Settings] -> [Location], allow the app to access your "Location" to activate Bluetooth MIDI connection.

Due to the specifications of Android devices, when the "Location" setting is "Off", the app cannot make a Bluetooth connection.

Note that Roland corporation does not acquire or collect any location information.

Q: Cannot connected to the dedicated "BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT" app.
A:
"POCKET-GT MIDI" might be connected in the Bluetooth settings screen of your mobile device.

Perform the following procedure to make the connection again.
  1. Delete (remove) "POCKET-GT MIDI" in the Bluetooth setting screen on your mobile device.

    iPhone: Tap the "i" located beside "Connected," and then "Forget This Device."
    Android: Tap the gear icon shown beside "Pocket GT MIDI" in "Paired devices," and tap "Unpair."
  2. Turn the Bluetooth switch of the mobile device off and on again.
  3. Long-press the [Bluetooth] button on the Pocket GT unit.
    - The dot in the lower right corner of the display blinks rapidly.
  4. Go to the Bluetooth setting screen on your mobile device, then connect to "POCKET-GT Audio."
    - If you have mistakenly connected to "POCKET-GT MIDI" here, try again from step 1.
  5. Start "BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT" app.
  6. Tap [Bluetooth MIDI Device] in the Bluetooth Setting screen.
  7. Tap [POCKET-GT MIDI].
    - If it remains "Connecting" on the SCAN screen and does not change, end the BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT app completely, then start over from step 2.
  8. When a "*" appears in the upper right corner of "POCKET-GT MIDI," return to the previous screen and tap [OK].

Q: Cannot use Bluetooth Audio.

Check the following points.

If the Pocket GT is visible as a device in the Bluetooth settings on the mobile device
If the mobile device's Bluetooth settings show that the Pocket GT is already paired, then unpair it.

- For iOS
From the iOS "Settings" menu, select "Bluetooth," and if the Pocket GT is displayed as "Connected," tap "i" to unregister it. After that, turn Bluetooth off and back on again.
* At this time, leave "Pocket GT MIDI" unpaired and close the screen. If it was inadvertently paired, unregister it again.

- For Android
From the Android "Settings" menu, select "Bluetooth," and if the Pocket GT is displayed as a paired device, tap the "gear" icon next to it. In the window that appears, unpair the device.
After that, turn Bluetooth off and back on again.
* At this time, leave "Pocket GT MIDI" unpaired and close the screen.
If it was inadvertently paired, unregister it again.


If the Pocket GT is not visible as a device
On the mobile device, turn Bluetooth off and back on again, then start pairing on the Pocket GT to redo pairing.

Q: In some cases, a paired mobile device stops connecting.
A:
Try turning the mobile device's Bluetooth switch off and on again.

- For Android
Under some conditions, Android devices can decrease the performance of the device to increase battery life. To keep a stable Bluetooth connection, remove the app from the "battery optimization" on your device's settings.

Q: Cannot connect to the app even if I tap "POCKET-GT MIDI" in the Bluetooth settings screen of the mobile device.
A:
When using the BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT app, make the pairing in the Bluetooth SETTINGS screen of the app.

- Please be careful not to connect to "POCKET-GT MIDI" in the Bluetooth setting screen of the mobile device. If the connection was made by mistake, please disconnect (or delete) the "POCKET-GT MIDI," and then pair it in the Bluetooth SETTING screen of the app.

It is not shown if the Bluetooth function of the Pocket GT unit is disabled (the Bluetooth indicator is unlit).
Hold down the [Bluetooth] button until the dot in the lower right corner of the display blinks rapidly, then make the Bluetooth settings on the mobile device properly.

You may have pressed the [Bluetooth] button before the unit is fully started.

Wait until the dot (Bluetooth indicator) in the lower right corner of the display lights or blinks after you turn on the power, and then long press the [Bluetooth] button for about three seconds. When the Bluetooth connection is on standby, the dot in the lower right corner of the display blinks rapidly.

Q: What mobile devices can the dedicated BOSS TONE STUDIO app be used with?
A:
The following mobile devices can be used.

iOS: iOS 10.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Android: Android 8 or later.

Q: Can I connect the unit to my computer via Bluetooth?
A:
Bluetooth audio/MIDI communication with a computer is not supported.

Q: Which one should I choose when more than one "POCKET-GT MIDI" is listed in the Bluetooth MIDI Devices screen of BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT? (iOS only)
A:
Use any of the following procedures to display the correct "POCKET-GT MIDI."

Procedure A
  1. Turn off the power of the Pocket GT unit.
  2. Open to the Bluetooth settings screen on your mobile device, then delete (remove) all of the "MIDI" that appears on the list.
  3. Turn on the power of the Pocket GT unit.
  4. Start BOSS TONE STUDIO, and select "MIDI" that appears on the Bluetooth MIDI Devices screen.

Procedure B
  1. Open the Bluetooth MIDI Devices screen in BOSS TONE STUDIO for Pocket GT ("BTS" for short).
  2. Press the [Bluetooth] switch of the Pocket GT unit to turn off the dot in the lower right corner of the display.
    - The "MIDI" that disappears from the Bluetooth MIDI Devices screen of the BTS at this point will be the one you should select in step 4.
  3. Press the [Bluetooth] switch of the Pocket GT unit to turn on the dot in the lower right corner of the display.
  4. Select "MIDI" that appears in the Bluetooth MIDI Devices screen of the BTS.


Q: "POCKET-GT AUDIO" does not appear in the Bluetooth setting screen of my mobile device.
A:
Please check the remaining power of your mobile device's battery.
In case the battery level gets low, and the power saving mode works accordingly, Bluetooth function may be disabled.
