How a few changes can help your mental health 💜

I recently added some much needed water…32ounces, and a mile and a half walk to my daily self care routine. I can honestly say it’s helping me to feel better and I just started 4 days ago.

Being on quarantine has really caused my mental state to suffer. So I have dug a little deeper into my bag of self help tricks to continue on my journey. Reading  and classical music (piano is my favorite) helps me to channel my calm.. This is what works for me…you are welcomed to try either of them, or  find what works for you.

You will be amazed at how a few minor changes in your life can have such an amazing affect on your mental state.

Making a gratitude list.

Today’s journal prompt is about gratitude.  According to Webster’s dictionary,  gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.

Gratitude is a quality.  Well…now what exactly is a quality. Again, according to Webster’s dictionary, a quality is a distinctive attribute or characteristic possessed by someone or something.

So basically expressing gratitude is showing a characteristic of being deeply thankful.

Make a gratitude list of 4 things you are thankful for.

I like this printable because it causes us to think a little harder about exactly what we are grateful for. It’s easy to be thankful for people in our lives; our families, both immediate and extended and people we may see every day, like our co-workers, friends, or even our pastors.  Maybe dig a little deeper, remember Webster’s definition of gratitude, being thankful for, being ready to show appreciation for, as well as to show kindness to…..that encourages me to include teachers, doctors, coaches, waiters, and cashiers, in the list of people im grateful for…I could go on and on…and I may☺️ but for the sake of the post, I won’t right now.  Using this printable as a guide, think about things, books, movies, places and even qualities that you may also be grateful for.

I’m sharing a few things from my own personal gratitude list below…it took alot longer than expected to establish my list, and explaining why I’m grateful for each would make for one of the longest gratitude list imaginable, so I decided just to keep each one brief…

#1 The PEOPLE I am grateful for…*my son’s *my siblings *my youngest son’s favorite teacher *new friends that use to be just people I kinda knew *I know he’s not a person, but he is family, I’m grateful for Kratos, my middle son’s new puppy. *

#2 Some THINGS I am grateful for…*my headphones, the level of privacy they bring me is incredible. *My car, which here lately has doubled as a truck, is used  for more  than simply  going from place to place, my car is used as my work space, often called my mobile office, my lunch room, place to make important calls, my “take a second to calm down” space, my quiet place, my sit in the back and look at the beach spot. Now that I’ve thought about it, my car should have maybe been my #1. *My phone, I’m sure your phone is on your gratitude list as well…I’m grateful for all the important things we are able to do with this one device, mostly I’m grateful for the fact that it allows me to stay in contact with people that I love.  *My Kindle….I enjoy books, and the fact that I can have as many as I like at my finger tips whenever I want…second best gift I ever got.

#3 BOOKS and other reading material, that I am grateful for….* The Tony Evans Bible Commentary…(best gift I ever got). I don’t have the words right now to express how grateful I am to have received this book.  *“I know why the caged bird sings” is another book I’m extremely grateful for. I felt like it was a must read for myself, I won’t spoil it for you, but if you read it you will never be the same. *I know this is not a book, but the Oprah Magazine is, I’ll say reading material, that I’m grateful for. * This blog, bossLadysBLOOMS, another reading material im grateful for, has  been a long time in the making, I have tons of potential blog post written down on notebooks all over the place and for the longest time, I was embarrassed to share. This blog is reading material that I am grateful for because I feel it necessary to encourage people,myself included, to get to know themselves, love themselves and take care of them selves.

I will finish my gratitude list in my personal journal, but I hope this helps you to get started.  I will admit this post took a lot of self searching, and innermost thinking, which is why I will finish in my own journal. The goal is get to know yourself better, so you can love and take care of yourself better.

JP#1 What are 5 things that you are good at? 

My personal thoughts:

*I am good at reading for information….if I don’t understand something, I don’t mind doing the research to find out…I think I do this to be able to help someone else. If you ask me a question and I answer you, chances are I’m correct. I don’t like to be embarrassed by not knowing or giving incorrect info either…lol💜

* I’m good at making pillows…lol…I have tons of pillows and love having them all over my house…I like to sew them by hand in whatever color or pattern I want💜

*I’m a good driver. I follow safe driving rules, drive the speed limit and all that.💜

*I’m good at making store bought cookies look and taste homemade💜

*I’m good at being a mother. This, to me, is the most important thing in my life. Becoming a mother changed who I was drastically. I always feel that God gave me three of his best humans to be my sons, so the job, although trying at times, has been wonderful. When they were children, I often worried about if I was doing the whole parenting thing right…now that they are adults..I think I got my answer…I did it right! 💜
