I listened to a podcast a few days ago about how our bodies intertwine with our moods. In one exercise, we were encouraged to demonstrate someone who feels sad. As I sat in my desk, I lowered my shoulders, dropped my head and made a frown. In my effort to model a sad person I even lowered my eyes and made myself small. We were then asked to sit and be sad for a while. Upon a few minuets, I actually started to feel sad.
After a little over 5 minutes, we were instructed to keep the sad feeling and stand up and do five jumping jacks. He repeated to us listeners to “stay sad” as we jumped. As I did my jumping jacks I tried to keep my humped over frame, lowered eyes and frown…but it was really hard to do. My head was lifted and my eyes watched straight ahead, I didn’t feel the sadness of only a few seconds earlier. It was difficult to feel sad and move my body in a faster pace.
He had basically proved his point and could have ended the podcast there.
I thought about that for a while. How just the moving and position of my body had altered my mood and attitude. I encourage anyone who may be feeling sluggish, sad or even just bored, to stand up and move, maybe jog in place, or do a few jumping jacks, put some happy music on and dance. If you are able, maybe go for a walk outside. Just move, breath and get your heart pumping.

Where do you struggle when it comes to self care?
This could be a great journal prompt if you are a person who journals. Write down where you stall at putting yourself first.
Do you feel guilty, like I did, about doing things that make you happy. I always worried about buying myself something if I didn’t buy something for my husband or my kids.
Do you feel bad about taking time to go for a walk or taking a nap when there are dishes to be washed or laundry to be folded?
Do you feel judged if you eat the ice cream instead of the salad.
I struggled with all of those thing, (except the ice cream, I don’t like ice cream). But all the guilt, stress and judgmental feelings were there….until I learned better.
You can not take care of others if you are not taking care of yourself.

I hope your day is going fabulous.
Over the weekend, I was asked “how do you practice self-care when you stay so busy?”
I was very excited to share with her my daily “break time” routine.
In addition to my full time job and writing my blog, I’m also a college student, I’m active in sports with my son, as well as prayer group, bible study, yoga and most recently a painting class. I do, however, get tired, frustrated and sometimes just plain ole over stimulated with it all.
So to answer the question, I do an exercise I learned during yoga class….I BREATHE! Of course we all breathe, we’d die if we didn’t, but how many of us consciously pay attention to our breathing.
Let’s try this exercise together:
Step 1. Set a 1 minute timer(start)
Step 2. Deeply inhale for 4 full seconds (slowly count 1….2…3….4…)
Step 3. Exhale for 4 full seconds(again slowly count as you exhale 1…..2….3…..4….)
Step 4. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: pay close attention to breathing ONLY!
Step 5. repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 for the entire minute.
As you are doing this exercise, sit still, if you are able to do so, close your eyes.♥
Keep in mind, this exercise doesn’t work if you make a To Do list in your mind as you breathe , or think about all the stuff you have to do as soon as the minute is up. Actively think of nothing, concentrate and listen to your breath.
Once I learned this, and yes as simple as it is I had to LEARN how to do it, but once I learned how to do this effectively, it become part of my work day routine. And I, as well as some of my co workers, am glad I did.
Adding more oxygen to my body and emptying my mind, even for just that minute put me in a better head space.
Some days I take 1 minute, some days longer…..but it helps.

Its another day to Love yourself!! I’m hoping you are taking care of you like never before. If you are a new follower, welcome, be prepared to start being your own favorite person.
Think about how you started your day on this awesome day…..
When you first woke up, did you lay there and try to think of an excuse to not go to work today….or did you take that quiet time to breath….deep breaths in and out as you quieted your mind.
What did you tell yourself as you rolled out of bed; if you are anything like me, your said “its only Tuesday”, right? Tuesdays have their good points….they aren’t Mondays and you get to enjoy this wonderful blog post. Think of the stuff you GET to do today.
Did you look in the mirror first thing and say good stuff to your cute self….even if all it is is good morning. You don’t have to be like me and have a whole beautiful conversation with yourself, but try not to let the first person you say Good Morning to be your co-workers. Say it to yourself first, then your family.
Did you eat something healthy or drink a cup of water? Water, first thing in the morning, for me, took some getting use too, but after reading the health benefits I muscled through.
As you left your house, was your commute your own little private concert of feel good music? However you commute, put those earbuds in and enjoy. Smile and sing along, hit that note like nobody is listening.
The rest of your day may be busy with work, family, errands, phone calls and emails, but if you can start the day by putting yourself in the best mood possible, you are already that much ahead.

Hey everybody. I just want to start by saying I hope today is one of the best days for you. I hope you have a smile on your face and joy in your heart.
I love when I am doing research for my blog and I get to share fun, doable, information with you.
I’ve been doing all of these things, and can happily say I do feel better.
♥Start each day by telling yourself something really positive. How well you handled a situation, how lovely you look today. Anything that will make you smile.
I looked at myself in the mirror this morning, with bed hair, and said……”girl, you are one beautiful bosslady” 🙂 ……..
♥Fill your body with food and drink that nourishes it and makes it thrive.
Water….Water…and more water. I don’t like water…ugh…but my body does. I can actually see the difference in my skin and feel the difference in my body now that I have added 32 ounces of water to my day.
♥Move that gorgeous body of yours every single day and learn to love the skin you’re in. You can’t hate your way into loving yourself.
I use to say…”I walk enough at work” now I walk a mile a week…not much but so much better than nothing.
♥End all toxic relationships. Seriously. Anyone who makes you feel anything less than amazing doesn’t deserve to be a part of your life.
This is a very hard thing to do. But if being around someone doesn’t make you feel the way you want to feel….are they absolutely necessary in your life?
♥Take time out to calm your mind every day. Breathe in and out, clear your mind of your thoughts and just be.
My BLOOMers know I love yoga….my once a week class is phenomenal and I take a few of the breathing techniques and practice at work and at home.
♥Have fun! Get out there and do the things that light your fire. Enjoy them, enjoy being you and enjoy your incredible life.
This one is self explanatory….get out there and live your best life!!
