Everybody should do it!

I will  remind you again how important it is to take care of yourself.  But its not just me saying this:

Yes you have to do this for YOURSELF!!

In fact everything is right about loving yourself!

Dr. Visit

It is easy to put off a doctor or dentist appointment because we get too busy doing other things, but this is very important to your well being and a crucial part of self care.  Taking care of your body means loving yourself as a person.

Today I encourage everyone to get a health check up. Go get the ‘well woman’ exam, men; get the prostate check up.  Do this for yourself!  Visit a dentist, even is nothing is hurting or wrong. Proper oral hygiene is a must.

Practice preventive measures to stay healthy.  Don’t wait until you are sick to start taking care of your body.  Its a lot easier to do when you feel good.

You are important

What did you do this past weekend to take care of your self and show yourself some love?

Did you chisel out a some time for yourself to relax or do something just for you that you enjoy.

I want everyone who reads my blog to understand how important it is to take care of yourself.

Let me ask you a few questions.

*Why do you get maintenance on your car? oil change? new tires?

Answer…..so it will run properly to take you and your family where you need to go.

*Why do you wash your clothes on delicate cycle?

Answer: because you take care of your clothes so they will look good when you wear them.

*Last question… Aren’t you more important than an automobile, or an article of clothing.

Answer: YES YOU ARE!

What’s your hobby?

What are you hobbies?

I don’t mean what you do at work when you are bored or watching TV on the couch, I mean what do you do that you enjoy that makes you feel good to do?

Do you read?

I’m an active reader and enjoy mysteries and coming of age books.

Do you write?

I  love writing this weekly blog but I also have an eBook that I wrote on Amazon.

Do you like some form of exercise? Swimming? Running?

I’ve, as I mention in an earlier post, just started a yoga class.  I helps me relax and I like to get out of the house and talk to new people.

Do you like to grow things like plants, flowers or vegetables in a garden?

I have a flower garden, unfortunately, I have to replant due to last year’s hurricane.

Do you play a sport?

I like playing basketball, although I’m not as good at it as I once was, and I get tired so much faster…lol

What about machines;….boats….cars….motorcycles?

My HLP(husband like person) owns a motorcycle and is in a bike club; i’m not sure if he likes riding or fixing on motorcycles more.

I’m not saying you should be busy doing something all the time, I am saying that everyone should have at least one hobby that they enjoy doing that helps them to relax.

Below are a few things that you may like to try:

*paint a picture (yes, you can substitute crayons for paint)

*Play a board game

*learn a new song and sing it.

*play an instument

*cook a new dish

*take a walk

*make a craft (great ideas at http://www.facebook.com/bossladyblooms)

Try something new and leave me a comment about how you enjoyed it.

Teach a child to love themselves 🧡

Screenshot_20180807-222940If you teach your child to talk but not to listen….

If you teach your child to fight with his fist but not to debate with his words…

If you teach a child to read but not to understand…

If you teach a child to love others but not to love himself….

Our children are our most prized possession…teach them the whole lesson.

Mending the Mind

Heeyyy all you lovely people!!!

School is back in session so that makes for a very busy time for me.  Getting my youngest son prepared to enter his sophomore year in high school, as well as his second semester of college; getting my middle son off to start his second year in college and getting my oldest son, including his wife and daughter, off to a whole other country….leaves little time for me!!  I am also a full time special educator in a public school district so I’m also back with student, parents and co teachers and all the duties that come with my job.  Now add that to still running my craft business (which you can find at http://www.facebook.com/bossladyblooms  (shameless plug :))), with craft fairs, and vendor events and personal orders; plus I research, write, edit and post this blog.  Whew….that’s plenty!

Though all of that, I have made up my mind to stay positive and look for the good in all situations and in all people.  I’ve learned that where your mind goes, the rest of you follows.  My mind is always full of stuff and a lot of the time, I have so much trouble cutting it off so I can sleep at night. I’m a thinker and have noticed,  that what I think about, be it good or bad, affects the way I feel and  how I behave toward situations and other people.

I’ve decided to train my brain, and to be more conscious of what I think about, especially when my mind starts to wonder off.  Can you honestly think yourself happy? I  believe so! I have started reading on the importance of oxygen to the brain.  I wont go into a long lecture on it but believe me when I tell you oxygen is VERY important to your brain.  If at anytime you start to feel your thoughts veer to the negative side, immediately stop and take some deep breaths, then consciously think of positive thoughts.

Taking care of your mind is key to taking care of yourself.  Remember you are what you think you are!

I am what I think I am, so I choose to be positive. Your thoughts are your seeds you can grow flowers or you can grow weeds.

Loving Yourself

Today was the last day of my eighth summer as a social skills camp instructor.  I really like working with the students on such a relevant skill.  Identifying and understanding social cues can be a difficult task for anyone, as a young teenager with autism, the task can be monumental.  In addition to crafts and games we had a lesson on a certain social skill twice a day.  I include the topic of loving yourself to my lesson daily.

In 1984, I was 14 years old, I lived with my mother and step father along with my younger brother and sister; my older two siblings had already moved into their adult lives.  Both my parents worked, and I was left with the chore of babysitting my siblings often.  I remember one day walking home from the bus stop and as we were about to cross the street to go to our house, my brother ran out ahead of me into the street without looking, I immediately bolted out after him also without looking, causing a car to loudly screech its brakes as it came with in only a few feet of hitting us both. I was terrified.  The minute we walked into the door at home my brother told my mother, that he “almost got hit by a car”.  Without hesitation my mother started lecturing me about looking out for my younger siblings and that I, as the “big sister” was supposed to “take care’ of them.  As she finished yelling at me, I went to my bedroom laid on the bed and wondered; I was almost hit too, im taking care of him, but who was taking care of me.

The self-care message to most children, especially teens, is mostly proper hygiene.  At 14, I knew about keeping my body, hair and teeth clean.  I knew to wear clean clothes and neat hair, what I didn’t know was how to love myself, and treat myself good.  Most children don’t at that young age.  This is exactly why I included self-love into every lesson.  How well you treat yourself usually dictates how others treat you.

The definition of selflove is regarding for one’s own well-being and happiness.  I look at this definition as one caring for themselves so that they are physically, mentally and emotionally healthy to give to others.
